If you are anything like me, you played 5 games of beer pong last night and are pretty unfit for anything other than maybe sitting upright right now. If you are nothing like me, your life must be boring. REGARDLESS, I have a cure for the Friday morning “why isn’t it Friday afternoon yet”s (which is like the “Mondays,” but a little more insidious). The Notorious xx. Granted, this is pretty old news in the internet world, but enjoy it anyway. It’s almost lunchtime! (Pro-tip: The download link from the original blog has been removed, so if you want it, get it now, before New York Magazine also gets a take-down notice.)

Everyone deals with break ups differently. Are you the dumper or the dumpee? How serious was your relationship? Did you see this coming? Etc. etc. There are a lot of factors. But I know this: there ain’t much that a country record cain’t fix.

First, before I make my argument for why you should listen to country records when you get dumped, let me say this: if you are one of those people that says “I like everything but country,” I think you are Busch League, have amateur taste in music and are downright un-American. You wretch.

Country music is three chords and the truth.

Anyways, back to getting dumped. There are a lot of common emotions that we all go through when you are informed that your relationship is the victim of murder. There is a lot of “what did I do wrong? This isn’t fair! Noooo, don’t!!! FUUUCCCCKKKKK” and “but, but, but I don’t want this!” And the tried and true ways to get through these troubling times are the following: booze, family/friends and music. I can’t help you with the first two (though they should be pretty easy), but I can help you understand that country music is a sure fire way to get you through any heartache. (more…)
